NKU Holds the 2024 Opening Ceremony of International Summer School

On the evening of July 1, the 2024 opening ceremony of Nankai University International Summer School was held, during which there were vivid cultural performances of faculty and students from home and abroad. Chen Jun, Vice President of Nankai University and Academician of CAS, attended the ceremony and delivered a speech. The event was also attended by more than 90 people, including experts and scholars from around the world, representatives of Nankai University's faculty and students. The ceremony was moderated by the head of the Academic Affairs Office of Nankai University.


The 2024 International Summer School of Nankai University began on July 1, lasting for 4 weeks, offering nearly 40 offline courses taught in foreign languages. More than 80 scholars from 17 countries and regions taught these courses covering natural sciences, engineering sciences, humanities and social sciences.


At the same time, the Global Nankai summer cloud classroom was launched, with experts and scholars from world-renowned universities such as University of Cambridge, University of Oxford, and National University of Singapore being invited to offer 30 online courses taught in English around 4 major themes: global vision/cultural consciousness, composite professional perspective, cross-cultural communication skills, and understanding on art frontiers.


In addition, the International Summer School is accessible to high school graduates in Tianjin for free. More than 300 of them from 70 high schools have registered to participate in these courses provided by the Summer School. 


On behalf of Nankai University, Chen Jun warmly welcomed faculty and students from home and abroad to participate in the 2024 International Summer School. 


John Leon Kiappes, a professor at the University of Oxford and the University of London, and chairman of the Steering Committee of the International Chemistry Olympiad, delivered a speech.


Professor Jin Zhezhen from the Department of Biostatistics, Mailman School of Public Health, Columbia University, delivered a speech. 


Professor Andrea Daga from the Department of Biomedical Sciences, University of Padua, delivered a speech. 


Zhang Yao from the Business School of Nankai University delivered a speech. 


Zheng Yunchi, a 2021 undergraduate student from the Shiing-Shen Chern Class of the School of Mathematical Sciences at Nankai University, delivered a speech.



At the ceremony, Nankai University Faculty Choir and international students from the School of International Education were invited to bring wonderful performances to the audience.


In recent years, Nankai University has implemented a series of measures through educational and teaching reforms, launching the Excellence at Nankai: Global Competence Enhancement Plan, and one of its key initiatives is to hold the International Summer School. At present, Nankai University has established cooperative relationships with more than 300 internationally renowned universities and academic institutions, aiming at high-level exchanges, including exchanges for faculty and students, joint training, research, etc. Nankai University has kept close contacts and deepened substantive cooperation with international organizations such as United Nations Industrial Development Organization, World Federation of Engineering Organizations, and World Economic Forum (WEF). This year, Nankai University also launched the Nankai-Oxford Wenzhong Scholarship Program to support outstanding Nankai students from disciplines such as life sciences, medicine, pharmacy, chemistry, mathematics, and so on to study at the University of Oxford, thereby fostering top-tier international and interdisciplinary talents with global competence.
