NKU Student Choir Wins Double Gold at the 13th World Choir Games

Recently, the first phase of the Championship of the 13th World Choir Games concluded in Auckland, New Zealand. The Student Choir of Nankai University triumphantly secured two gold medals in the C28 - Folklore and Indigenous Music with Choirs and C8 - Mixed Choirs. In the former competition, they brilliantly performed the suite Banna Music Painting (1. Langmolida; 2. Guyu Terraces; 3. O’ran), and in the latter competition, they achieved a high score of 90.38 with their renditions of Autumn, Carnival, Flowing River, and Yearning for the Snowfield.



The World Choir Games, often referred to as the “Olympics of Choral Music”, is the largest choral competition globally, held every two years since 2000. Only qualified choirs can compete in the Championship, and this year’s gathering in Auckland saw participation from over 200 choirs representing more than 40 countries and regions, with over 11,000 competing in 28 groups in the Championship and Open.


The Student Choir of Nankai University, established in 1995, is composed of students from various colleges. Under the guidance of their esteemed conductor, Professor Meng Chaomei, the Choir has been steadfast in its commitment to creating and promoting works that embody the essence of Chinese culture and showcase its distinctive national characteristics. The Choir has consistently carried the voice of China and displayed the vibrant spirit of Nankai students on the global choral stage. With nearly three decades of dedication and refinement, the Choir has garnered over 30 international gold awards and championship titles and secured first place in the National College Student Art Exhibition and Performance for six consecutive years. Its international presence is marked by performances in more than 20 countries worldwide, etching the legacy of Nankai into the annals of global choral history.
