NKU Leaders Attended the 2024 Japan Confucius Institutes Conference

On October 19, Yang Kexin, Vice-Chancellor of Nankai University, was invited to attend and deliver a speech at the 2024 Japan Confucius Institutes Conference, which was hosted by the Confucius Institute at Aichi University in Nagoya, Japan. Representatives from Confucius Institutes at 14 Japanese universities and institutions, including Waseda University and Ritsumeikan University, also participated.



In her address, Dr. Yang highlighted the significant progress achieved through the collaboration between Nankai University and Aichi University in co-establishing the Confucius Institute, advancing academic exchanges, and fostering cooperative education programs. She expressed a positive outlook on further enhancing cooperation between the two institutions.



During the event, Dr. Yang attended the Council Meeting of the Confucius Institute co-founded by Nankai University and Aichi University and held talks with Yuki Hirose, President of Aichi University and Chair of the Confucius Institute Council.


Dr. Yang also met with Guo Jun, Education Counsellor at the Chinese Embassy in Japan and a Nankai alumnus, and Guan Changkong, Consul at the Chinese Consulate General in Nagoya, for discussions on enhancing China-Japan educational exchanges in the new era.



Additionally, Dr. Yang met with Nankai students who are participating in a joint doctoral training program at Aichi University.


During her stay in Japan, Dr. Yang visited Kyoto University, where she held discussions with Tetsuo Sawaragi, Executive Vice-President of Kyoto University. They engaged in deep exchanges on establishing an international joint laboratory and explored potential collaborations in fields such as mathematics, chemistry, and artificial intelligence, reaching a broad consensus.


Following the meeting, Dr. Yang engaged with Nankai alumni who are working or studying at Kyoto University.



Dr. Yang later visited the Chinese Consulate General in Osaka, where she met with Consul General Xue Jian. Xue praised Nankai Universitys achievements in China-Japan exchanges. The two discussed strategies to further deepen comprehensive partnerships between Nankai University and Japanese universities.


The Japan Confucius Institutes Conference, held annually, is hosted on a rotating basis by Confucius Institutes in Japan and aims to foster information exchange and resource sharing.
