NKU Leaders Met with Chancellor of the University of Oxford

On November 13, Chen Jun, academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Vice President of Nankai University, met with Irene Tracey, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Oxford, in Shenzhen. The two sides met to renew friendship and seek common development, and reached consensus on strengthening the high-quality relationship between the two universities.

 

Zhang Wenzhong, Lifetime Trustee of Nankai University, Chairman of Nankai Alumni Business Association, founder of Wumart Group and founder of DMALL; Wang Yusuo, Chairman of the Board of Directors of ENN Group; Liesl Elder, Chief Development and Alumni Engagement Officer at University of Oxford; Jeremy Woodall, Director of Development, Asia at University of Oxford; Ngan-Ying Mak, Senior Director of Development at University of Oxford, and the Director of the Office of International Affairs at Nankai University attended the meeting.

 

Chen Jun pointed out that Nankai University and the University of Oxford are old-established universities with a friendly relationship, and the implementation of substantive and high-level bilateral exchange and cooperation projects has considerably contributed to mutual learning and people-to-people exchanges between China and the UK. In particular, the Nankai-Oxford Wenzhong Scholarship Program has set a new model of talent introduction and education for the two universities, injecting fresh impetus to higher-level cooperation in the next stage.

 

Irene Tracey expressed her gratitude for the welcome from the Nankai representatives and spoke highly of the achievements of bilateral exchanges and cooperation. Irene Tracey pointed out that the University of Oxford would continue its support for the Nankai-Oxford Wenzhong Scholarship Program, and also encouraged the two universities to carry out richer and more diverse research cooperation based on their respective multidisciplinary strengths.

 

The University of Oxford is a top higher education institution in the world. Nankai University has kept close contact with the University of Oxford, and has conducted a number of high-quality projects including joint scientific research, student visits, and summer school. As China further opens up in education in the new era, cooperation between the two universities has been in recent years upgraded, and a new model of all-round, wide-ranging and multi-tier cooperation has been set.
