NKU Received Guests from Brazilian Federal University of Ceará

Diana Azevedo, Vice President of the Federal University of Ceará in Brazil, led a delegation to visit Nankai University and discuss further bilateral cooperation on the morning of November 18. Zhao Meirong, Vice Chancellor of Nankai University met with the guests at the School of Foreign Studies at Nankai University.


After extending a warm welcome to the guests, Zhao Meirong reviewed the history of cooperation between China and Brazil, Nankai University and Federal University of Ceará, and also introduced the current situation of Nankai University. She said that on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Brazil, the two universities will foster multi-tier inter-university cooperation on the basis of current cooperation. She also hoped that more productive exchange results will be achieved as the two sides use their respective discipline strengths to explore new models of cooperation.


Diana Azevedo introduced the history and scale of the Federal University of Ceará as well as the productive achievements in the running of the Confucius Institute established in partnership with Nankai University in the past five years. Diana Azevedo said that, on the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Brazil, and also the 5th anniversary of the establishment of the Confucius Institute, a priority task of the Federal University of Ceará is to boost international cooperation, especially with its important partners such as Nankai University.


The two sides exchanged views on cooperation related to the translation and publishing programs as well as the joint master’s program.


Representatives from the Confucius Institute at the Federal University of Ceará, the School of Foreign Studies and the Office of International Affairs of Nankai University, also attended the talks.


The Federal University of Ceará is one of the largest federal universities in Brazil. Directly affiliated with the Brazilian Ministry of Education, it is a center of excellence for teaching and research in Brazil. In 2020, Times Higher Education (THE) ranked the Federal University of Ceará as the best university in Northern and Northeastern Brazil. The Confucius Institute at the Federal University of Ceará is the ninth Confucius Institute established by Nankai University overseas.
