2025-05-05

On April 25, a delegation headed by Alisher Tairovich Ubbiev, Director of the Agency for the Specialized Educational Institutions (ASEI), Uzbekistan, visited Nankai University (NKU). Chen Jun, Vice President of NKU, met with the guests on Balitai Campus.

Vice President Chen extended a warm welcome to the delegation and provided an overview of NKU’s latest developments, particularly Confucius Institute initiatives and Chinese language education programs. He emphasized Uzbekistan’s dual role as a key member of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and a pivotal partner in Belt and Road Initiative. With Tianjin set to host the 2025 SCO Summit, Chen expressed NKU’s eagerness to advance multi-level, multi-dimensional collaboration with Uzbek educational institutions. Highlighting specific areas for cooperation, he proposed deepening dialogue on Chinese language teaching and textbook compilation. He further voiced aspirations to establish partnerships with prestigious Uzbek universities to facilitate faculty and student exchanges as well as joint research in humanities, science, and technology. He believed that such educational exchanges and collaboration would contribute to the China-Uzbekistan all-weather comprehensive strategic partnership for the new era and advance high-quality Belt and Road cooperation.

Director Ubbiev sincerely appreciated NKU’s warm reception. He reviewed Uzbekistan’s progress in advancing the nationwide education modernization reform, with the newly established ASEI overseeing this innovative framework. He noted the deepening cooperation between China and Uzbekistan across economy, trade, investment, and technological innovation. With a growing “Chinese language boom” sweeping across Uzbekistan, Director Ubbiev expressed hopes that this visit would serve as a driving force for adopting China’s proven methodologies in Chinese language education, introducing high-caliber Chinese faculty resources, and systematically localizing Chinese language curriculum development and textbook compilation. Furthermore, he proposed concrete collaboration between NKU and institutions under ASEI, including faculty and student exchanges, as well as joint research programs. He emphasized that these efforts would bolster the cultural and educational ties central to the Belt and Road Initiative.

Later that day, the delegation visited the NKU College of Chinese Language and Culture. Both sides held in-depth discussions on Chinese language education and textbook development.
