2025 Annual Meeting of the Youth Forum of the Insurance and Actuary 40 Forum Held at Nankai University

On June 14, the 2025 Annual Meeting of the Youth Forum of the Insurance and Actuary 40 Forum was held at Chern Building, Balitai Campus. Themed Digital-Intelligent Empowerment and New Quality Productivity in Insurance, the forum was organized by Nankai University, and jointly undertaken by Nankai-Taikang College of Insurance and Actuarial Science and Ant Yikang (Guangzhou) Information Technology Co., Ltd.



This forum was attended by Chen Yulu, President of Nankai University, and former President Gong Ke, who also serves as Executive Director of the Chinese Institute of the New Generation Artificial Intelligence Development Strategies, Director of the Haihe Laboratory of Advanced Computing and Key Software, and former President of the World Federation of Engineering Organizations (WFEO). It was chaired by Sheng Bin, Vice President of Nankai University.



In his opening address, Chen Yulu emphasized the profound strategic importance of digital transformation in the insurance sector amid the rapid evolution of digital technologies such as big data and artificial intelligence. As a key institution in China’s insurance and actuarial education, Nankai University has partnered with Taikang Insurance Group to establish the Nankai-Taikang College of Insurance and Actuarial Science and has launched high-level academic platforms including the Insurance and Actuary 40 Forum and its Youth Forum. These initiatives are designed to foster innovation in the industry through new ideas, models, and technologies, while assuming a shared responsibility for addressing the challenges of the times. Chen expressed hope that this forum would become a platform for experts and scholars to share valuable insights on pressing topics such as breakthroughs in intelligent actuarial technologies, building public welfare insurance systems aligned with new quality productivity, and promoting interdisciplinary integration, ultimately contributing to a uniquely Chinese solution to actuarial development in the digital era.

 


Gong Ke delivered a keynote speech titled “Technological Characteristics and Development Trends of Artificial Intelligence—With Reflections on Key Relationships in Development and Application of Artificial Intelligence”. He explained that the relationship between AI and humans is essentially that of a tool and its creators, users, and regulators. He adovacated for human-guided AI so that it would truly serve the interests of the people. Gong further stressed the need to develop and apply AI technologies in ways that are tailored to local conditions, with a strong focus on practical applications. He called for efforts to secure a leading position in AI innovation and to promote its development in a beneficial, safe, fair, and orderly manner.



Keynote speeches at the main forum were also delivered by Zhou Yanli, former Vice Chairman of China Insurance Regulatory Commission; Liang Tao, former Vice Chairman of China Banking and Insurance Regulatory Commission; and Zhang Junjie, Vice President of Ant Group and General Manager of its Digital Healthcare Division. Liu Qu, Vice President of Taikang Insurance Group, moderated the session.


In the afternoon, three parallel forums and one roundtable discussion were held. Experts and scholars engaged in in-depth discussions on key topics including “Insurance Technology and Innovation in New Quality Productivity” “Applications of Generative AI and Big Data in Insurance Operations” “Opportunities and Challenges in Building an Insurance Ecosystem Under Digital-Intelligent Empowerment”, and “Opportunities and Challenges in the Digital-Intelligent Transformation of the Insurance Industry”. Their insights offered forward-looking perspectives and practical solutions for driving digital-intelligent transformation and innovation in the insurance industry.


Launched in November 2023, the Insurance and Actuary 40 Forum is an academic platform initiated by Nankai University, with the Youth Forum as its sub-forum.
