Recently, Gao Su, Chair Professor at Nankai University, was invited to attend the Roaming Logic Conference organized by the University of Warsaw, where he served as the 2025 Mostowski Lecturer and delivered a keynote report on “Descriptive Combinatorics of Abelian Group Actions”.
The three-day conference brought together leading scholars from Poland, China, the US, the UK, Germany, Italy, Spain, and Austria to share their latest findings across all major areas of mathematical logic. The Mostowski Lecture was the featured invited keynote session of the conference. In his report, Professor Gao reviewed the development and major achievements of descriptive combinatorics as an emerging field of research. He introduced several new methods developed with his collaborators, such as the hyper-aperiodic element method and the orthogonal labeling method. He specifically highlighted recent results on continuous edge chromatic numbers of Abelian group actions, achieved entirely by the Nankai Logic Group, and elaborated on how Cohen Forcing in set theory can be used to address definable rectangular tiling problems within this framework.
Professor Gao’s research focuses primarily on mathematical logic and the foundations of mathematics. He has also made contributions in related areas, including topological groups, symbolic and topological dynamics, and ergodic theory.
