On June 26, the Nankai University-University of Glasgow Joint Graduate School held its 2025 commencement ceremony and degree conferral ceremony on Jinnan Campus. The event was attended by Zhu Shoufei, Vice President of Nankai University and Dean of the Joint Graduate School, and Sara Carter, Vice Principal of University of Glasgow.

A member of the Degree Evaluation Committee of Nankai University formally announced the decision to confer Master’s degrees on 41 graduates. During the degree conferral session, Sara Carter performed the “head-touching” gesture and presented degree scrolls from University of Glasgow. Zhu Shoufei then adjusted the graduates’ tassels and conferred their diplomas of Nankai University.

In her speech, Sara Carter extended warm congratulations to the graduates and commended their exceptional academic achievements. Reflecting on the collaboration between the two universities, she remarked that although Tianjin and Glasgow are over 5,000 miles apart, the 17-year partnership and decades-long academic connection have made the Joint Graduate School a model for integrating the strengths of Chinese and British universities. She also encouraged the graduates to embrace the spirit of being “world-changers”, to cherish their cross-cultural learning experiences, to apply their talents in service of human well-being, and to contribute to social progress and global development with the international vision endowed by their dual degrees.

In his address, Zhu Shoufei extended warm congratulations to the graduates and expressed sincere appreciation to their academic supervisors, families, and to the  colleagues from University of Glasgow. He noted that, over the past 11 years, the joint program has nurtured more than 700 graduates who embody both a strong sense of national responsibility and a global perspective. The four signature programs have continued to upgrade, the dual Doctoral Program is advancing smoothly, and the recent establishment of the Nankai University-University of Glasgow Joint Research Center marks a new chapter in the deepening of institutional collaboration.

The Nankai University-University of Glasgow Joint Graduate School officially began enrolling students in 2015. It is the first international postgraduate institution in China jointly established with a British university under the name “Joint Graduate School”. The School currently offers four academic programs: International Relations, Regional Economics, Environmental Science, and English Language and Literature.
