These events offered Chinese and international participants an immersive experience of the rich cultural essence of this Chinese holiday.

At the School of Foreign Studies, participants, both domestic and international, engaged in traditional Chinese fun games such as solving lantern riddles and playing pitch-pot (touhu). They also explored various cultural activities, including making mooncakes, writing calligraphy, experiencing Peking Opera, and crafting lanterns.

While participating in the Peking Opera experience, Letizia, an international student from Italy, gently ran her fingers over the intricate embroidered patterns of a Peking Opera costume and exclaimed, “This costume is more than clothing; it’s a vessel carrying Chinese aesthetics and history. This experience gives me a completely new understanding of Chinese opera.”

The School of International Education and the College of Chinese Language and Culture jointly launched the opening ceremony for the annual Chinese Language Festival and the Mid-Autumn Festival Carnival. Over 230 Chinese and international freshmen gathered to celebrate the festival and immerse themselves in the charm of traditional Chinese culture.

The celebration featured spectacular cultural performances by international students from Russia, Vietnam, Malaysia, and other countries, along with Chinese freshmen. Performances such as How Long will the Full Moon Appear, Melody of the Moon, Da Yu, and Dance of Youth by Vietnamese Students showcased the charm of cultural exchange and harmony through melodious songs and graceful dances.

For Indonesian student Neil Alvaro, it was his first time celebrating the Mid-Autumn Festival in China. “Although I couldn’t be with my family, celebrating and performing with friends here at NKU gives me a deep sense of warmth and belonging,” he shared.

By combining cultural presentations, traditional experiences, and hands-on crafts, these activities enabled participants to enjoy an immersive experience of Chinese traditions while enhancing mutual understanding and cultural exchanges among Chinese and international communities and further promoting the international transmission and exchange of Chinese cultural heritage.
