[Tianjin Forum 2025] President Chen Yulu Meets with UN Resident Coordinator in China

On October 19, Nankai University (NKU) President Chen Yulu met with Mr. Siddharth Chatterjee, the United Nations Resident Coordinator in China, during his visit to Tianjin for the Tianjin Forum 2025. The meeting was also attended by Chen Jun, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Vice President of NKU, as well as Liang Qi, Deputy Secretary of the CPC Nankai University Committee. The two sides engaged in fruitful exchanges on collaboration in the cultivation of globally competent talent and other areas. 

President Chen first extended his gratitude to Mr. Chatterjee for his participation in the Tianjin Forum 2025. He then provided a comprehensive overview of NKU’s history and the university’s collaborative engagements with the United Nations and its affiliated agencies. He emphasized that NKU has maintained close ties with the UN system for many years and has supplied a steady stream of young talents who possess both global vision and deep commitment to their homeland. President Chen expressed the university’s readiness to use the Tianjin Forum 2025 as a springboard for deepening cooperation with the UN system in talent development, academic research, and cultural exchange, thereby contributing more substantially to sustainable human development.

Mr. Chatterjee spoke highly of the successful convening of the Tianjin Forum 2025 and expressed his gratitude to NKU for the gracious invitation and warm hospitality. He acknowledged the unique role of higher education institutions in promoting dialogue among civilizations and identified the youth as a vital force in cultural exchange. He also recognized NKU’s long-standing commitment to cultivating outstanding talent for society, and saw tremendous potential for future collaboration between NKU and the UN system. He expressed hope to expand channels for more substantive collaboration between the two sides, enhance youth exchanges and development, and jointly advance global prosperity, stability, and mutual learning among civilizations.

At the invitation of NKU, Mr. Chatterjee visited Tianjin for the Tianjin Forum 2025 from October 18 to 21 and delivered an address at the opening ceremony. He also attended the Chinese Path to Modernization Lecture Series and gave a keynote speech titled “UN@80 and the Challenges that the World Faces” for the faculty and students of NKU.
