Recently, Political Economy of Socialism with Chinese Characteristics, with Professor Pang Jinju serving as editor-in-chief, and Professors Liu Fengyi and He Zili as associate editors-in-chief, published by Higher Education Press, has been selected for 2025 China Classics International (CCI), according to an announcement released by the China Press Publication Media Journal.

Political Economy of Socialism with Chinese Characteristics is a key textbook under the Marxist Theory Research and Construction Project in the new era organized by the Ministry of Education and approved by the National Textbook Committee. It is also one of the first original titles in the Chinese Economics Series. The textbook is guided by Marxism and grounded in Xi Jinping Thought on the Economic Ideology of Socialism with Chinese Characteristics in the New Era. Its contents are informed by a systematic review of Chinas practical experience in reform and opening-up and socialist modernization, as well as by theoretical advances in Marxist economics. It also incorporates fine traditional Chinese economic thought while drawing on relevant insights from international economics. Focusing on the major issues raised by the development of the times and practice, and respecting the principles of pedagogy and textbook compilation, the textbook places great emphasis on innovation and seeks to contribute to the formation of a theoretical and discourse system of socialist political economy with Chinese characteristics, Chinese style, and Chinese ethos. The textbook introduces notable innovations in content, structure, and methodology, helping to renew teaching frameworks and learning perspectives. It not only provides solid support for economics education in China, but also offers a theoretical lens through which the international community can better understand Chinas economic achievements.

Led by Professor Pang Jinju, the research and teaching team in political economy at Nankai University has dedicated itself to the study of political economy of socialism with Chinese characteristics. Their scholarly outputs have provided important support for the development and international dissemination of China’s independent economic knowledge system. The team’s 2017 publication, General Theory of Political Economy of Socialism with Chinese Characteristics, attracted wide attention at the Paris Book Fair and has been collected by internationally renowned academic institutions, including the British Library. As a title selected for the Chinese Academic Translation Project, the book will have its foreign-language editions released as planned, further promoting the international presence of China’s independent knowledge system in economics.
