2026-06-01

On May 26, the Ministry of Education launched the 2026 National Lecture Tour on the Spirit of Educators in Beijing. Huai Jinpeng, Secretary of the CPC Leadership Group of the Ministry of Education and Minister of Education, met with members of the lecture team. Du Jiangfeng, a member of the CPC Leadership Group of the Ministry of Education and Vice Minister of Education, presided over the opening session. Chen Jun, academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Executive Vice President of Nankai University, and leader of a National Huang Danian-Style Faculty Team in Universities, joined the national lecture tour as a representative of outstanding teachers.

In his report, Chen Jun drew on the experience of the National Huang Danian-Style Faculty Team in Universities, focusing on the spirit of educators and the fundamental mission of fostering virtue through education. He revisited the “Three Questions on Patriotism”, which President Xi Jinping has highly commended, as well as Xi’s earnest message to Nankai faculty and students to “dedicate the individual self to the greater cause”. Chen Jun also recalled the dedication of Nankai University's predecessors, including Yang Shixian and He Binglin, who devoted themselves to serving the country and serving national strategic needs. He introduced the team he leads, which was selected as a National Huang Danian-Style Faculty Team. Upholding the spirit of serving the nation with sincerity and a strong sense of responsibility, the team has remained deeply engaged in teaching, research and talent cultivation by regularly conducting science outreach, establishing a specialized class for emerging engineering disciplines, leading the compilation of the field’s first dedicated textbook series, and developing digital teaching resources. Against the backdrop of the rapid growth of China’s foreign trade “new trio”, namely electric vehicles, lithium-ion batteries and photovoltaic products, the team has encouraged young researchers to venture into uncharted areas of science, leading to original breakthroughs in battery electrolytes. Committed to integrating science with education and industry with teaching, the team has advanced education and research in solid-state batteries. It aims to cultivate high-caliber talent with a strong sense of national responsibility, a broad global vision and the courage to innovate, preparing students to contribute to Chinese path to modernization.

Chen Jun’s new energy battery faculty team was selected in 2025 for the fourth group of National Huang Danian-Style Faculty Teams in Universities by the Ministry of Education. The team has 37 members from Nankai University’s College of Chemistry and College of Electronic Information and Optical Engineering. More than 70% of its members are national-level talent program recipients, and 67% are young faculty members under the age of 45.
