Nankai University Signs Strategic Cooperation Agreement with China Rare Earth Group

On June 8, the signing ceremony for a strategic cooperation agreement between Nankai University and China Rare Earth Group Co., Ltd. was held at Haibing Center on Balitai Campus. Chen Yulu, President of Nankai University, and Liu Leiyun, Secretary of the CPC Committee and Chairman of China Rare Earth Group, attended the ceremony and witnessed the signing. Zhao Meirong, Executive Deputy Secretary of the CPC Nankai University Committee, and Xie Zhihong, member of the CPC Committee and Deputy General Manager of China Rare Earth Group, signed the agreement on behalf of the two sides. Yu Hai, Assistant to the President of Nankai University, presided over the signing ceremony.

China Rare Earth Group is a centrally administered enterprise with diversified ownership directly supervised by the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council. It is a large, comprehensive, and international rare earth industry group that ranks among the leading enterprises in China and at the forefront globally. Under the agreement, the two sides will leverage their respective strengths and, with a focus on the high-value application of rare earths in emerging scenarios such as interventional brain-computer interfaces, targeted drug delivery through interventional stents, and turbojet-powered low-altitude aircraft, work together to tackle key technological challenges, transform research outcomes into practical applications, and foster and expand new quality productive forces.

Prior to the signing ceremony, the two sides held talks.

Chen Yulu welcomed Liu Leiyun and his delegation and introduced Nankai University’s century-long history and its glorious tradition of patriotism and serving the country. He said that the cooperation agreement with China Rare Earth Group provides an important opportunity for the university to better serve the national strategy of building China into a sci-tech powerhouse. Nankai University will keep in mind the earnest instructions President Xi Jinping gave during his visit to the university: “strengthen basic research, strive to produce more achievements in original and independent innovation, and scale the heights of world science and technology.” The university will continue to integrate high-quality disciplinary strength and work with China Rare Earth Group to build a collaborative innovation system integrating industry, academia, research, and application, so as to promote the transformation and implementation of more research outcomes and contribute to the implementation of major national strategies.

Liu Leiyun introduced the background of the establishment of China Rare Earth Group, as well as the company’s development practices in recent years in implementing the important instructions of President Xi Jinping and deepening scientific and technological innovation. He noted that Nankai University is a century-old institution renowned at home and abroad, with a glorious patriotic tradition, a strong foundation in basic disciplines, and rapidly advancing emerging engineering disciplines. In light of the current development landscape, he expressed hope that the two sides will strengthen cooperation in areas such as basic research, key research tasks, the transformation of research outcomes, and talent cultivation, so as to build a sound innovation ecosystem, produce more original, high-quality research achievements, and jointly serve the country’s overall strategic development.

During the visit, Liu Leiyun and his delegation also visited Nankai University’s centenary history exhibition, gaining an in-depth understanding of the university’s century-long history through valuable historical documents, photographs, and video materials.
