As L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University marked its 30th anniversary, Sheng Bin, Vice President of Nankai University, led a delegation to visit the university in Kazakhstan.
Sheng Bin, as the Secretary-General of the SCO Digital Economy University Alliance, attended the 2026 SCO Digital Economy University Alliance Forum together with Yerlan Sydykov, Rector of L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University. In his remarks, Sheng Bin read a congratulatory message from Chen Yulu, President of Nankai University, on the 30th anniversary of L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University and the opening of the 2nd SCO Digital Economy University Alliance Forum. Sheng Bin said that during last year’s SCO Tianjin Summit, Nankai University, together with universities from SCO member states and with the support of China’s National Data Administration and Tianjin Municipal People's Government, launched the SCO Digital Economy University Alliance. The alliance is committed to building a high-level educational community in the field of digital economy under the SCO framework, and to promoting collaborative innovation and sustainable development among member universities. Over the past year, the alliance has achieved fruitful outcomes in fostering an open, collaborative and innovative platform for educational cooperation, advancing interdisciplinary integration, facilitating resource sharing, and promoting joint talent cultivation. He also noted that the Chinese-foreign cooperatively-run educational projects between the two universities has served as a model for higher education exchanges and cooperation between China and Kazakhstan and that the program is significant for cultivating talent suited to the digital economy era and the Belt and Road Initiative.

During the forum, Sheng Bin, Yerlan Sydykov, together with Dinara Shcheglova, Vice Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan, jointly unveiled the international joint research center between the two universities. The center is expected to contribute to building a high-level international platform for deepening the Belt and Road network for cooperation on educational innovation.
During the visit, the delegation also met with Han Chunlin, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People’s Republic of China to the Republic of Kazakhstan. The two sides exchanged views on promoting China-Kazakhstan higher education cooperation and exchanges, conducting cross-border training for digital talent, and advancing international integration of industry and education.
