Overview

History

Nankai University was founded in 1919 by the famous patriotic educators , Dr. Zhang Boling and Yan Xiu, inspired by adhering the idea of saving the nation through education.

1904

Tianjin Nankai Middle School was established

1919

Nankai University was founded

1923

Nankai University relocated to Balitai, South of Tianjin

1937

The campus was destroyed by the Japanese army and forced to move southwest

1938

The three universities of Nankai, Peking and Tsinghua formed the National Southwest Associated University (NSAU)

1946

Nankai University returned to Tianjin and reopened as a national university

1952

With the re-adjustment of the departments of the university Nankai became a comprehensive university with both liberal arts and sciences

1994

The State Education Commission and Tianjin Municipal People's Government joined effort in the construction of Nankai University

1995

Nankai University was included in Project 211 among the first batch of universities in the country

2000

The Ministry of Education and Tianjin Municipal People's Government signed an aggreement on the joint construction of Nankai University and Nankai became one of the universities supported by Project 985

2010

The Ministry of Education and the Tianjin Municipal People's Government signed an agreement to continue finance the construction of Nankai University

2011

The construction of Jinnan campus was started

2014

Nankai University Regulations were officially released with the approval of the Ministry of Education

2015

The construction of Jinnan campus was completed and put into operation

2017

Nankai University became one of the 42 Universities selected for the National Double First-Class Initiative

2019

Nankai University celebrated its 100th birthday
